G-spot
Abbreviation for Grafenberg spot.

gamete
A generic term for a sex cell; an ovum or sperm.

gamete intra-fallopian transfer (GIFT)
A procedure for infertile couples in which sperm and eggs are collected and then inserted together into the woman's fallopian tube.

gardnerella vaginalis
The bacterium that is the most common cause of bacterial vaginosis. It also refers to the infection itself, which causes a thin, smelly discharge in both men and women.

gay-bashing
Violence against gay men or lesbians because of their orientation.

gender
The characteristics associated with being a male or a female; as distinguished from the term "sex" which is more ambiguous. Also sometimes used to merely refer to the state of being either male or female.

gender difference
Any difference between males and females.

gender dysphoria
Dissatisfaction with one's gender. In extreme cases, this condition is known as transsexualism, in which a person desires to be the other gender.

gender identity
The gender one feels himself or herself to be, whether physiologically male or female.

gender role
The role a person is expected to perform as a result of being male or female in a particular culture; as distinguished from the term "sex role" which is more ambiguous.

gender stereotype
An overgeneralized belief about the characteristics of a person based simply on their gender.

gender-role socialization
The ways in which children are taught to behave in ways considered appropriate by others for their gender.

genetic sex
The differentiation of males and females based upon chromosomal and hormonal differences.

genital warts
An STD caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) that causes warts to appear on the genitals.

genitals
The reproductive and sexual organs of males and females. Also sometimes known as genitalia.

gestation
The entire time of pregnancy — from conception to birth.

gestational diabetes
A medical condition in which a pregnant woman develops a form of diabetes due to the pregnancy.

getting laid
Slang term for having sex.

getting off
Slang term for having an orgasm; usually used in reference to a male.

GIFT
Acronym for gamete intrafallopian transfer.

gigolo
A male prostitute.

giving head
Slang term for fellatio.

glans clitoris
The sensitive tip of the clitoris.

glans penis
The sensitive tip of the penis.

going down (on)
Slang term for cunnilingus.

golden showers
Slang expression for a sexual variation involving urinating on a partner.

gonad
An organ that produces gametes; ovaries or testes.

gonadotropins
Hormones produced by the pituitary gland that stimulate the activity of the gonads.

gonorrhea
An STD caused by the Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacterium.

Grafenberg spot
A sexually sensitive area on the upper wall of the vagina approximately two inches from the opening. Also known as the G spot.

granuloma inguinale
An fairly rare STD that is characterized by nodules on the genitals that become lumpy, painless ulcers that bleed on contact.

gynecomastia
A condition that causes enlargement of a male's breasts during puberty.
